Just got back from my weekend in Cape Town. The J&B Met horse race was a lot of fun... a little bit of betting and a whole lot of people watching. Apparently the Met is the place to be seen in Cape Town and so everyone was dressed to draw attention. From ball gowns to sheer mini dresses, we saw it all. The theme of the event was "In Full Colour" so I saw just about every colour imaginable. We got a ten rand betting voucher with our tickets and I decided to put my money on a horse named Smart Investor. I knew nothing about the horse and it lost but it was still exciting. We spent most of the day at the race track then headed to dinner at Mama Africa on Long Street. I had ostrage (which you are probably all surprised I tried... ) and we stayed for some live entertainment. All the restaurants here have such fun atmospheres. We stayed overnight in a hostel and then wandered around Cape Town this morning. Most stores are closed here on Sundays so we just hit up a few markets. Then this evening we went to a concert by Lira, a South African artist, at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. We enjoyed a picnic and then a lot of dancing. The scenery was gorgeous and it ended up being a perfect way the end the weekend! Now its back to classes!
